We are gearing up for that. This topic will see us rating drivers from 1-10. Here is the document:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1dnPSeVbYFM6KP0SW2SPGzJch7KAiLuaUvD4hpSWSHek/edit?usp=sharing

It's a very sexy document with lots of pretty formulas. The only drawback is that, in the comparisons page, the "who rates them higher?" function will only show one name even if two people offer the same rating. There's room for 2 more people, but many more is welcome. It's fairly easy to plug more people into the document!

Please guys, join us for this!

Just copy & paste the above driver list into a post on this thread, repeat for each race.  The one called Chrill will then whack the figures into his fancy spreadsheet thingy.

Indeed. Just post your answers here, scale of 0-10 (although I rarely vote below 3 and I rarely vote 10) and I'll put them in that there document which we will then use to get some stats. After a couple races, the document begins to make more sense since we start getting interesting averages.

Do we rate on overall performance for the weekend or the race alone?
Not sure. I think I rate the weekend but heavily skewed for race performance. As in, if you qualify 3rd with a Sauber and end up 8th, that's likely a 10 pointer even though you lost 5 places. If you qualify 3rd and finish 8th in a Ferrari, that's likely a 3-4 depending on how the race went. :D

Okay I?m in. This is a good way to analyze drivers you might not notice during a race otherwise.

Chrill

Agreed. I do tend to keep an eye on the back of the grid, with what having a fellow Swede back there. This helps me rate all of the drivers, since the top guys are rather easy and the midfield usually is where the battles are.

Also a great opportunity for making sarky (or complimentary) comments about the drivers, as Chrill did all last year: http://minardif1.com/forum/index.php?topic=39.0

@Matt: We really need to sort out this encoding issue we're encountering on this here website.

Matt

You mean whatever is turning my apostrophes into question marks and so on?

Chrill

Quite. Not to mention the umlauts for Hulkenberg and Raikkonen. H?lkenberg and R?ikk?nen.

I'm not sure how you want us to rate drivers who didnt get a decent chance to drive due to mechanical failure (Sirotkin).  I based my rankings with 5/10 being average, more points for a good performance, and fewer points for under performing.

Mercedes:
Lewis Hamilton - 6/10 (Good first half, but was unprepared to fight Vettel and ended up making mistakes, even with the best car on the grid. Maybe should avoid snide comments in the press conference before the race?)
Valtteri Bottas - 5/10 (Average drive)

Ferrari:
Sebastian Vettel - 8/10 (Sometimes lucky is better than good, but keeping a Mercedes behind you is pretty good as well)
Kimi Raikkonen - 8/10 (Great qual, great race)

Red Bull:
Daniel Ricciardo - 8/10 (Great race after receiving a BS penalty)
Max Verstappen - 4/10 (Not his best day...)

Force India:
Sergio Perez - 7/10 (I feel like both FI drivers did well, but their car is really lacking)
Esteban Ocon - 6/10

Williams:
Lance Stroll - 5/10 (I didn't see much of the Williams, but I don't know what to expect of them. Finishing the race seems to the first expectation, getting into the points would be excellent)
Sergey Sirotkin - X/10 (Mechanical failure)

Renault:
Carlos Sainz - 5/10 (Would be higher if not for losing it under pressure from Alonso and finishing behind Stoffel)
Nico Hulkenberg - 7/10 (Great drive, everything I'd expect from Renault)

Toro Rosso:
Pierre Gasly - X/10 (Got Honda'd)
Brendon Hartley - 5/10 (He finished the race, can't expect too much from a newer driver in a back marker)

Haas:
Romain Grosjean - 6/10 (Good drive, sad result)
Kevin Magnussen - 8/10 (Magnussen was outstanding, unfortunately we didn't get to see him finish)

McLaren:
Fernando Alonso - 10/10 (Everything you'd expect in a driver, Fernando had today. Amazing result)
Stoffel Vandoorne - 7/10 (A good result)

Sauber:
Marcus Ericsson - X/10 (mechanic failure)
Charles Leclerc - 8/10 (Great result for a new driver in the slowest car)

Chrill

Feel free to change it to an X if you want. If drivers rate too short time to perform anything, I usually don't rate him because I want to find an average of their actual drives! :)

Mercedes:
Lewis Hamilton - 8/10 (Crazy fast on Saturday, definitely fastest today, still didn't win. Should have built a bigger gap to the Ferraris in the first stint if he wanted a higher rating)
Valtteri Bottas - 5/10 (That just wasn't good eh? Sure, P15 is a crappy place to start but he was in P12 before the safety car (plus the double Haas retirements) put him into the points. Kinda bad)

Ferrari:
Sebastian Vettel - 8/10 (He wasn't the best Ferrari driver today, but he kept his cool when handed a magnificent stroke of luck)
Kimi Raikkonen - 9/10 (He was the best Ferrari driver today, and also yesterday. Kept Ricci at bay and finished real close to Hamilton in the end. Nice stuff, he's back to form this year we can hope)

Red Bull:
Daniel Ricciardo - 8/10 (Considering that starting position, he made the most of it. Close to a podium. Strong)
Max Verstappen - 4/10 (Pushed too hard, made silly rookie mistakes. Like I've said before, Max may be stronger than Ricciardo at his best, but Max's worst is definitely far worse than Ricciardo's. This showed it)

Force India:
Sergio Perez - 7/10 (With only 15 finishers, not scoring points is not good enough for Force India. Still, beat his team mate so there's that)
Esteban Ocon - 6/10 (Like above, but finished behind so rated a little lower. They stick together and are evenly matched just like in 2017)

Williams:
Lance Stroll - 4/10 (Quite poor. I mean, the only driver he beat was Hartley who had an abysmal race. He even lost out to rookie Leclerc in a supposedly slower car)
Sergey Sirotkin - X/10

Renault:
Carlos Sainz Jr - 7/10 (Was feeling sick but still bagged one point. Strong of him to pull through and bring it home in the top ten)
Nico Hulkenberg - 8/10 (Battled for long periods of time without making any silly mistakes. Unlike others further up the grid. Solid if a bit unspectacular)

Toro Rosso:
Pierre Gasly - X/10 (The McHonda is now a ToroHonda but it acts just like the old one)
Brendon Hartley - 3/10 (Where was he even? Missed the start and destroyed his tyres and simply got out of synch. Poor start to his first full season)

Haas:
Romain Grosjean - 7/10 (That was pretty good. Then God knows what happened in the pits for Haas. Real unlucky)
Kevin Magnussen - 8/10 (That was even better. Then God knows.. yeah, same as above. Haas will be exciting to watch this season)

McLaren:
Fernando Alonso - 9/10 (P5 is solid. Best of the rest. Can't remember when he last finished in the top 5. Great racing today)
Stoffel Vandoorne - 7/10 (Not quite as spectacular as his double world champion team mate but pretty solid still)

Sauber:
Marcus Ericsson - X/10 (Damn.)
Charles Leclerc - 8/10 (Hey hey my my. Beat a Toro Rosso and a Williams in his debut race. Not bad, not bad at all. As a rookie, one-lap pace is easy to find but the knowledge of how to best manage the car during a race is difficult. Leclerc is looking strong)

M4A1, let me know if I should translate your 5s to X or if you wish to keep them as 5 :)

I've also added a compiled ratings to the document, so you can check that out  :)
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1dnPSeVbYFM6KP0SW2SPGzJch7KAiLuaUvD4hpSWSHek/edit?usp=sharing

It simply shows the average of all our ratings for a driver in that race. For example, I rated 7 and M4A1 rated him 8, so his compiled rating is 7.5.

I edited my post and changed some of my ratings after reading more about the race. I agree, no score for an early mechanical DNF is a more accurate result.
